About Rotary

What is Rotary?

Rotary is an international service organization of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. There are over 46,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries with 1.4 million members.

What does "Service Above Self" mean?

It's Rotary's motto and guiding principle. It means putting the needs of others and the community before your own. In practice, it means volunteering your time, skills, and resources to make your community and the world a better place.

What is The Four-Way Test?

The Four-Way Test is a set of ethical guidelines Rotarians use in their personal and professional lives: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Joining

How do I join the Imlay City Rotary Club?

Start by visiting one of our Wednesday meetings at noon at Third & Main Social Club. Attend a few meetings, get to know the members, and if it feels right, fill out a membership interest form. A current member will sponsor you, and the board will vote on your membership.

Do I have to be a business owner to join?

Absolutely not! Rotary welcomes people from all walks of life — teachers, retirees, healthcare workers, stay-at-home parents, skilled tradespeople, and more. The only requirement is a desire to serve your community.

How much does it cost to be a member?

Annual dues are approximately $200, which covers Rotary International membership, district fees, and club operations. Weekly lunch is $15 cash or $15 + credit card processing fees. There are no hidden fees or mandatory fundraising quotas.

How much time does Rotary require?

Our main commitment is the weekly Wednesday lunch meeting (about 1 hour). Beyond that, you can participate in service projects and events as your schedule allows. Most members find they give 2-4 hours per month beyond the weekly meetings.

I don't live in Imlay City. Can I still join?

Yes! We have members from Almont, Capac, Lapeer, Dryden, Attica, and other surrounding communities. You're welcome to join any Rotary club that works for you regardless of where you live.

Meetings & Events

When and where do you meet?

We meet every Wednesday at noon at Third & Main Social Club in downtown Imlay City. Meetings last about one hour and include lunch, club business, and a guest speaker or program.

Can I visit a meeting before joining?

Absolutely — we encourage it! Just show up any Wednesday at noon. First-time visitors eat free — come see what we're about. No RSVP needed, though you can contact us ahead of time if you prefer.

What happens at a typical meeting?

We start with lunch and fellowship, followed by club announcements and updates on service projects. Most meetings feature a guest speaker — local business leaders, community officials, or subject matter experts. We wrap up within the hour.

What is Woods-N-Water?

Woods-N-Water is our biggest annual fundraiser, held each September at the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds. It features food, live music, games, and family fun. All proceeds support scholarships and local community projects.

Getting Involved

I'm not ready to join. Can I still help?

Of course! We always need volunteers for events like Woods-N-Water, community service days, and other projects. Contact us or fill out our volunteer interest form to get on our list.

How can my business support the club?

There are several ways: become a sponsor for Woods-N-Water or other events, list your business in our online directory, or make a donation to support scholarships and community projects. Visit our Sponsorship or Directory pages for details.

Do you have programs for young people?

Yes! We offer scholarships for Imlay City High School seniors, sponsor students for RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), and support the Rotary Youth Exchange program.

Still Have Questions?

The best way to learn about Rotary is to experience it firsthand. Come visit a meeting — we'd love to have you.
